Welcome to Simbahollin, a charming café nestled in the heart of Thingeyri, Iceland, on Fjarðargata. This cozy coffeehouse is a delightful retreat for travelers exploring the stunning landscapes of the Westfjords.

The moment you step inside this quaint establishment, you are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that echoes the café's rich history as an old grocery store dating back to 1915. The current owners, who lovingly transformed this space in 2005, have preserved much of its original charm while infusing it with a rustic, vintage feel. The café is adorned with retro furniture, local artwork, and creative souvenirs, making it not just a place to eat, but a destination to savor the local culture.

Simbahollin is renowned for its exceptional coffee, a highlight noted by visitors like Yuval Meidan, who praises it as "Good coffee!" Whether you crave a robust espresso to energize your hike or a creamy latte to enjoy while soaking in the surroundings, this café delivers. Additionally, you can indulge in a selection of homemade treats that complement the coffee perfectly. While some guests have pointed out a few items, like the soup, could benefit from less seasoning, many rave about the delightful sweets available, including their soft cinnamon rolls and the distinctive waffle topped with rhubarb jam, a standout option that embodies local flavors.

In their reviews, visitors have emphasized the café's cozy ambiance and friendly vibe, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploration. Maria Pellini describes it as a “cozy and friendly coffeehouse,” where she enjoyed a warm soup before heading out to hike the stunning surroundings. It’s a place where you can linger over your meal, surrounded by the quiet charm of the village, leading to a truly relaxing experience.

However, it's worth noting that timing your visit is essential, as the café operates with limited hours. As noted by Anita Einarsson, the owner enforces a strict takeaway only policy fifteen minutes before closing, which may catch some off guard, especially in a region where food options are scarce late in the day. But fear not—arriving earlier provides the chance to soak in the welcoming atmosphere and enjoy the unique offerings that Simbahollin has to offer.

With its combination of quality coffee, local treats, and historic charm, Simbahollin is not just another café; it's an integral part of the Thingeyri experience. Whether you're stopping by for a quick takeaway or planning to relax and soak in the cozy environment, this café promises a delightful slice of Icelandic hospitality. Make sure to include it in your travel itinerary—you won’t regret indulging in the sensory pleasures it has to offer!

A small cafe in a small and remote village in western Iceland. Good coffee!

Cozy and friendly coffeehouse located in Pingeyri Iceland in the Westfjords. This was a planed stop because of all their reviews that we read. We enjoyed a warm soup before our hike. Such a relaxing atmosphere. It is an old grocery store from 1915, which we restored and converted into a coffeehouse by the current owners who bought it in 2005. They renovated the whole house but kept most of the original interior. We took a walk to the back of the restaurant to where they had outdoor seating so we could take a look at a bus that they had for extra seating when this place gets crowded. We thought that was really cool! They are only open from June 1st to September 1st

We only had drinks here. At 4:45 the owner was letting customers know she only does take-away last 15 minutes and closes promptly at 5! She turned customers away to do so. This a village with NO other food options in late August, so a bit surprising (shocking) The old building is authentic and charming. Hospitality may be wonderful at noon but by 5 pm it was lacking

Atmosphere of this cafe was so cozy and warm! We had the best waffle with rhubarb jam here. Soup was a little bit too salty tho. I loved the art works on walls, retro furniture and crafty souvenyrs as illustrated postcards, cookbook or canvas bags and T-shirts. We took cinnamon roll on the way, it was a little bit too sweet and dry. But overall I would come back for sure!

We had a nice sweet potato and carrot soup (as the soup of the day) and a lovely waffle with great jam for dessert.

Wonderful coffee shop with wonderful food: chocolate chip cookies and the rhubarb jam are still giving me sweet dreams! The staff was quite lovely as well. Epitome of Iceland!

The cafe has a lot of great indoor and outdoor spaces for hanging out. Amazing food and their own cookbook you can purchase (we've tried the tomato soup and Danish apple cake so far, both lovely). The staff was very young and busy with training another new young member; friendly but busy staying above water. Big recommend.
